Gym Setup FAQ
How to scan your gym, get the best results from AI analysis, and manage your equipment.
Axis Echo uses AI to analyse photos of your gym equipment and build a personalised workout plan around what you actually have access to. Scan once during setup, then rescan whenever your gym changes. Your plan always reflects your real equipment.
Taking Photos
How should I photograph my gym equipment?
Take one photo per machine or piece of equipment. For machines with an instruction card, include that in the shot - it helps Axi identify the exercise more accurately. During a full gym setup you can upload up to 12 photos.
Can I just take a wide shot of the whole gym?
You can, but results are better with individual shots. Wide shots make it harder for the AI to identify specific machines and what exercises they support. One photo per piece of equipment gives Axi the best chance of building an accurate plan.
Do I need to photograph every single piece of equipment?
Only photograph equipment you actually plan to use. If your gym has 40 machines but you only use 15, just photograph those. The plan Axi builds will be based on whatever you scan.
Does it work with free weights and barbells?
Yes. Photograph your free weight rack, barbells, dumbbells, or any other equipment you use. Axi will identify the exercises available from those too, not just machines.
The AI Analysis
What if the AI misses some equipment or gets something wrong?
After the scan you review everything Axi detected before it builds your plan. You can remove exercises that were incorrectly identified and add any that were missed. Nothing is committed until you confirm.
How long does the analysis take?
Usually 30 to 60 seconds depending on how many photos you upload and your connection speed. The app shows progress while it works.
What does Axi do with the photos?
The images are sent to the AI for equipment and exercise detection, then used to build your workout plan. They are stored against your gym profile so Axi can reference them when you rescan or update your plan later.
Managing Your Gym
Can I rescan my gym after the initial setup?
Yes. Go to Profile, find your gym under My Gyms, and tap Improve with Photos. This lets you upload new photos and rebuild your plan - useful if your gym adds new equipment or you want to update your workouts.
Can I add exercises manually without scanning?
Yes. You can add exercises to your gym manually at any time from the Exercises tab. Use scanning for the initial setup and manual additions for anything the AI missed or any custom exercises you want to include.
What if I train at more than one gym?
Axis Echo supports multiple gyms. Set up each one separately with its own scan, and switch between them in the app. Your workouts and training plan will reflect the active gym.
Does it work for home gyms?
Yes. Just photograph whatever equipment you have at home - a squat rack, pull-up bar, resistance bands, whatever. Axi will build a plan around what you actually have available.
